Josh Brookes has ramped up the pressure on Bennetts British Superbike title rival Scott Redding by taking pole position for the opening race of the Brands Hatch finale as the championship leader suffered late mechanical issues in Q3.

Brookes needs to overhaul a 28-point gap to Redding over the three-race final round at the Kent track and has given himself the perfect start by securing pole position for the opener by beating Danny Buchan on the FS-3 Racing Kawasaki with a 1m 25.860s to take pole by 0.112s.

Disaster struck for Redding when his Be Wiser Ducati appeared to loses power with a technical issue on his first flying lap of the pole position shootout session. With the ex-MotoGP rider stranded on the far side of the circuit, he failed to set a lap time and will start Race 1 from the back of the third row in ninth place.

Christian Iddon completes the front row alongside Brookes and Buchan to see the other BSB title contender Tommy Bridewell pushed back to the front of the second row for Oxford Racing Ducati.

Bridewell is joined on row two by Peter Hickman on the Smiths Racing BMW and McAMS Yamaha’s Jason O’Halloran.

Luke Mossey qualified in seventh place for OMG Racing Suzuki with Bradley Ray in eighth place for Buildbase Suzuki ahead of Redding.

The final BSB Showdown member Tarran Mackenzie endured a disaster in Q1 when he low-sided off unhurt at Stirlings with his McAMS Yamaha pitching into the gravel trap to tumble over the barrier and into the trees. Mackenzie will start Race 1 from 23rd place.
