Buchan’s marginal improvement of half a tenth from FP1 was good enough to claim top spot ahead of championship leader Jason O’Halloran and local favorite Rory Skinner.

Along with Skinner, Danny Kent was another big mover from this morning as he claimed fourth for Buildbase Suzuki. Skinner finished FP1 eighth, while Kent was tenth quickest.

Free Practice One

SYNETIQ BMW rider Buchan topped the opening Bennetts British Superbike free practice at Knockhill ahead of championship favorites Christian Iddon and O’Halloran.

Buchan, the only current rider on the grid to win at the Scottish venue led most of the session, before O’Halloran and Iddon both set times fast enough for top spot late on.

However, Buchan was undeterred by that as he regained first place with a 47.432s - +0.199s quicker than the Visiontrack Ducati.

The short and undulating Knockhill circuit - always one for close racing, demonstrated this with how close lap times were. The top 14 were covered by one second as defending champion Josh Brookes brought up the rear of that group.
