Kristensen Tests - For Now

Tom Kristensen will only fulfil a testing role for the Tyrrell team, despite being lined up to replace regular driver Ricardo Rosset.

The two drivers had a selection shoot-out at the recent Magny-Cours test, with Kristensen winding up a half second slower than Rosset, who made use of the latest spec Phase 10 Ford engine to record a time just 0.005secs from team-mate Tora Takagi. The team hoped that Kristensen could beat his rival with an older, less powerful engine, to highlight Rosset's deficiency.

Rosset will thus continue with the team at this weekend's French GP although, with Kristensen set to test for the team again, the Brazilian's seat has yet to be confirmed for the rest of the season. The team is hoping that it can haul itself back amongst the top ten constructors in order to qualify for free travel bonuses next season.
