A Lebanese Grand Prix is the latest event to join the list of F1 hopefuls, with a debut race being talked about for 2003.


The former war torn country was mentioned - partly in jest - as a potential GP venue some time ago, but the latest stories claim that the event has a real chance of taking place. The FIA's technical delegate Charlie Whiting has seen a model of the proposed street circuit layout, and has apparently even walked the streets with Lebanese president Rafik Al Harari. Whiting was originally sent to the Middle East to brief Lebanese officials on FIA safety standards.


President Harari was also seen in talks with FIA promotions boss Bernie Ecclestone at the French GP, with financial requirements for his event high on the agenda.
