Kimi Raikkonen and McLaren continued to set the pace at the latest Silverstone group test, as the Woking manufacturer's MP4-19B easily out-gunned the Jordan-Fords on show at the British circuit.

The two 'Silver Arrows' racked up the miles at the scene of Raikkonen's first podium of the season, at the British Grand prix on Sunday, completing 109 laps between the Finn and team-mate David Coulthard. Although the MP4-19B has already shown that it is a big step ahead of the car with which the team started the season, all concerned realise that there is still a way to go before it matches the likes of Ferrari's F2004, and this week's testing time will prove valuable for the remaining seven races of the campaign.

Raikkonen clocked a 1min 18.105secs best, half a second slower than he had managed on Tuesday, but was not helped by weather conditions that proved less amenable than they had on the opening day. Coulthard again lapped slower than his colleague, clocking 1min 18.895secs, as he continued to pursue a better set-up for his driving style. The Scot has commented that Raikkonen's pre-launch test of the 19B at Silverstone enabled the Finn to steal a march on him at the British GP, and he is determined to get back on a par before the German round next weekend.

Jordan ramped up its turn-out by adding a third car for the relatively unknown Chanoch Nissany, who tasted Formula One for the first time after several seasons plying his trade in various junior series. Nissany's inexperience showed in the final results, where his 25 laps yielded a best time of 1min 36.606secs, leaving him some nine seconds adrift of 'team-mate' Nick Heidfeld.

The German, whose chances of replacing the injured Ralf Schumacher at Williams recede with every day that he is not out in the BMW-powered FW26 at Jerez, was out-paced by rookie team-mate Giorgio Pantano, who completed more than twice the number of laps en route to a best lap of 1min 22.075secs - faster than he qualified for Sunday's British GP. Heidfeld's efforts were compromised by the fact that he only ran on a damp track.

Testing continues tomorrow [Thursday].
