Red Bull announces February launch.

Red Bull Racing has revealed that it intends to launch its first Formula One car - the RB1 - on Monday 7 February whilst preparing for testing at the Jerez de la Frontera circuit in Spain.

The RB1 - which is to be heavily based on the Jaguar R5 as well as encompassing ideas from the R6 that was under build in Milton Keynes prior to Ford selling its F1 team to Red Bull boss Dietrich Mateschitz - will be the first car to race under the drinks brand's ownership.

The team, which continues to be based in Milton Keynes despite its switch to Austrian patronage, has been testing with a reliveried version of last year's R5 and, having retained the staff structure in place at Jaguar, insists that it is on schedule for the launch programme.

Further details regarding the unveiling will be issued in January, and it is thought that RBR will also reveal more about its intended driver line-up at that point. Red bull-backed Jaguar rookie Christian Klien has been sharing the bulk of testing duties for RBR with F3000 champion Vitantonio Liuzzi, causing many to consider the pair as favourites, albeit inexperienced ones, for the two race seats. However, Swiss rookie Neel Jani - another Red Bull prot?g? - is due to test the car this week, and veterans such as David Coulthard and Nick Heidfeld remain in with an outside chance of joining the line-up.
