No match for McLaren?

One man's love of Formula One has driven him to spend six years building perhaps the ultimate time-consuming replica of one of his favourite cars - the McLaren-Mercedes MP4/14 campaigned by Mika Hakkinen.

The remarkable thing about Michael Arndt's recreation, however, is that it is full-size...... oh yes, and built out of matchsticks. Some 956,000 of them to be precise.

According to autobild.de, the German's labour of love also consumed 1686 tubes of glue as he constructed the car in his kitchen, and cost an estimated EUR6000. Fortunately, he designed it so that it can be broken down into 45 parts for moving - something his wife is no doubt pleased about as she tries to reclaim the kitchen.

Let's just hope they have an electric cooker......
