Alonso to run Indy 500 helmet for United States GP

Fernando Alonso will run a tribute to his Indianapolis 500 helmet at the United States Grand Prix on his first return to the country since his headline-grabbing debut at the iconic race.

Alonso opted to miss the Monaco Grand Prix in order to take on his maiden Indy 500 as part of a deal between McLaren-Honda-Andretti.

The two-time Formula 1 world champion was running seventh before heartbreak struck with 20 laps to go when his Honda engine failed.

Despite missing out, Alonso helped produce huge interest across the world in the iconic US race and on his return to the United States he will re-run his Indy 500 helmet design.
