Esteban Ocon has branded his United States Grand Prix disqualification as “stupid” and the “worst feeling ever” after losing his latest Formula 1 points finish.

The Force India driver finished eighth on the road at the Circuit of the Americas but was excluded from the results after being found to have exceeded the legal fuel flow limit on the opening lap of Sunday’s race.

“The Stewards reviewed the telemetry evidence, heard from the driver of car 31 (Esteban Ocon) and team representatives,” an FIA notice read. “The Stewards find that the fuel mass flow exceeded 100 kg/hr during Lap 1 of the race.”

Ocon took to social media following the race to vent his frustrations.

“Pushing the whole race, getting good points, and getting disqualified in the end for a stupid reason is probably the worst feeling ever,” he tweeted.

“Our mistake – anyway not giving up for sure!”

Ocon was joined in being thrown out of the Austin event classification by Kevin Magnussen, who was excluded for consuming more than 105kg of fuel during the race.

It prompted Magnussen to label F1 as ‘Formula Fuelsaving’ as Haas rounded out its home round without a single point to its name.

The post-race result changes promoted Sergio Perez up to eighth and Toro Rosso’s Brendon Hartley up to ninth – marking his best result of the season - while Marcus Ericsson also benefitted to take the final point for Sauber.
