Sebastian Vettel has received two penalty points on his FIA Super License in addition to his time penalty for unsafely rejoining the track during Sunday's Canadian Grand Prix.

Vettel controversially lost the race at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve after being handed a five-second time penalty for almost running Mercedes rival Lewis Hamilton into the wall at the Turn 4/5 chicane following a mistake.

Vettel lost the rear of his car and ran across the grass before rejoining the track, with Hamilton attempting to pass around the outside at exit, only to be forced to back off as the Ferrari driver came across the line.

Vettel vented his fury at the stewards over team radio for the incident, saying they were "stealing" the race from Ferrari.

In addition to the time penalty, the stewards confirmed after the race that Vettel had received two penalty points on his FIA Super License, taking him up to seven for a 12-month period.

"The stewards reviewed video evidence and determined that Car 5 [Vettel], left the track at Turn 3, rejoined the track at Turn 4 in an unsafe manner and forced Car 44 [Hamilton] off track. Car 44 had to take evasive action to avoid a collision."
