Zhou Guanyu F1 Career Overview

Zhou Guanyu will make his Formula 1 debut with Alfa Romeo in the 2022 F1 World Championship.

After finishing third in the 2021 Formula 2 season, Zhou makes the move up and becomes China's first full-time driver.

Zhou Guanyu - Route to F1

Zhou makes his F1 debut with Alfa Romeo alongside former Mercedes driver and 10-time grand prix winner Valtteri Bottas.

After finishing runner-up in Italian F4 in 2015, Zhou made the move up to FIA Formula 3 European championship. After a strong start at Paul Ricard, Zhou's form faded as he finished a lacklustre 13th in the drivers' championship.

In 2017, he finished eighth after returning to Prema with five podium appearances. He remained in F3 for another season in 2018, although he couldn't improve on eighth in the standings.

Zhou joined UNI-Virtuosi Racing with Luca Ghiotto for the 2019 FIA Formula 2 season. He enjoyed a strong rookie season, ultimately finishing a respectable seventh in the championship with five podiums.

He remained with the team for 2020, but could only move up one position in the championship - finishing sixth. Zhou took his maiden win in the Sochi sprint race.

Again with UNI-Virtuosi Racing, Zhou emerged as a serious title contender in his third year in the series. A strong start to the season moved him to the top of the championship with wins in Bahrain and Monaco.

Zhou's form wasn't enough as he slipped to third in the standings behind Oscar Piastri and Robert Shwartzman.

Despite dropping to third, it was still enough for Alfa Romeo to promote him to F1 for 2022 in place of Antonio Giovinazzi.
