Mercedes DTM driver Edoardo Mortara will make his debut in Formula E later this year after being signed by Venturi to its line-up for the all-electric series' fourth season.

Mortara, 30, worked his way up the single-seater ladder before making the switch to DTM in 2011, where he raced with Audi until the end of last year before switching to Mercedes.

Mortara was part of Venturi's test roster in Valencia earlier this month, going head-to-head with James Rossiter in a shootout before being confirmed by the Monegasque team for the upcoming campaign in an announcement made on Friday morning.

The Italian driver will partner DTM teammate Maro Engel at Venturi, with both jockeying to be in contention for a seat with Mercedes upon its entry to Formula E in season six.

Mortara takes the seat shared by Tom Dillmann and Stephane Sarrazin through season three, with neither racer currently in line to return to Formula E.

The new Formula E season kicks off on December 2 in Hong Kong.
