Lucas di Grassi continued his impressive start to the Mexico City Formula E race weekend by topping second practice at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez for Audi on Saturday morning, finishing two-tenths of a second clear of Mahindra's Felix Rosenqvist.

Defending Formula E champion di Grassi led opening practice in Mexico earlier in the day after getting in an early lap at 200 kW, and managed to double up with a second full power effort in FP2 that saw him post a best lap time of 1:01.203, going half a tenth slower than he managed in the earlier session.

Title contender Rosenqvist led the early part of the session before di Grassi's lap, leaving him P2 overall at the chequered flag ahead of Jaguar's Mitch Evans and Mahindra teammate Nick Heidfeld in P4.

The session was put under a red flag for five minutes after a crash for Alex Lynn at Turn 2. The DS Virgin Racing driver tried passing Rosenqvist around the outside of the corner, getting onto the dirty line that sent him wide and into the wall, but he was still able to finish the session fifth-fastest.

Some quick work from the circuit marshals allowed the session to resume with enough time for drivers to get out for one final flying lap, with Sebastien Buemi managing to improve and rise up to eighth place for Renault e.dams behind Antonio Felix da Costa and Daniel Abt. Jose Maria Lopez finished ninth, while Sam Bird completed the top 10.

Qualifying for the Mexico City E-Prix takes place at 12pm local time (6pm UK) on Saturday.
