Formula E returns with the season-opener taking place under the lights in Diriyah.

The season opens with a double-header in Saudi Arabia with the all-electric series entering its eighth season - its final before the ‘Gen3’ era.

While the cars have mostly stayed the same for 2022, the biggest change is the qualifying format.

Group qualifying - the previous format - was criticised for being too disadvantageous for the title contenders given they were forced to qualify in group one and thus have the worst of the track conditions.

Instead, Formula E has implemented a complex, knock-out style qualifying format.

Reigning world champions Mercedes retains its pairing of 2021 Formula E champion Nyck de Vries and Stoffel Vandoorne.

Oliver Rowland has switched to Nissan from Mahindra, while Lucas di Grassi is at Venturi following Audi’s exit.

Former F1 driver Antonio Giovinazzi makes his debut in the series with Dragon, as does Dan Ticktum at NIO 333.
