MotoGP Mugello LIVE: Sprint reaction following Raul Fernandez's win

Live coverage from the Sprint at the 2026 MotoGP Italian Grand Prix from the Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello.

Live updates from the 2026 MotoGP Italian Grand Prix at Mugello. The Sprint is due to start at 15:00 this afternoon.

Key Moments

  • Raul Fernandez wins sprint
  • Bezzecchi breaks lap record in Q2
  • Martin breaks speed record in FP2

Fabio Di Giannantonio came into Saturday as the fastest rider from Practice yesterday and topped FP2 this morning as well, but the Italian was only able to qualify seventh earlier on. He said yesterday that he's riding this weekend with an "annoying" hand injury from Catalunya.

Francesco Bagnaia was second-fastest yesterday and is a three-time MotoGP winner at Mugello, although he had his own concerns over tyre consumption after Practice. The Italian was only sixth in qualifying this morning.

Bagnaia has Marc Marquez back alongside him in the factory Ducati box this weekend. The reigning champion said afterwards that his main objective yesterday was to assess the condition of the shoulder he had an operation on after the French GP. This morning he was able to be the best of the Ducati riders, qualifying fourth.

Perhaps the most surprising name to miss out on a direct Q2 position yesterday was Pedro Acosta, the Spaniard finishing 13th. Enea Bastianini, by comparison, was up in third, so Acosta explained afterwards that he would be trying to learn from Bastianini's data overnight. In qualifying, the gap between them closed and reversed, with Acosta coming through Q1 to qualify 10th, while Bastianini was 11th.

Aprilia were relatively underwhelming on the time sheets yesterday, with Marco Bezzecchi seventh and Jorge Martin eighth, and both Trackhouse bikes out of the top-10. Bezzecchi, though, perhaps had better speed than the final result suggests, after his best lap was cancelled for track limits. Martin, on the other hand, had more significant confidence issues to deal with, perhaps stemming from his crash-strewn weekend in Barcelona.

Qualifying was much better for the Noale factory, though, with a front row lockout for the RS-GP. Bezzecchi starts on pole and Martin third, while Raul Fernandez starts second.

Vinales shoulder "good" but lacking strength

Maverick Vinales says the condition of his injured shoulder is "good", but that he is still missing strength in it, meaning he is over-compensating with his opposite shoulder.

The Spaniard's greater concern after finishing 15th in the Sprint today were some technical improvements he wanted to make on the KTM.
