Ducati’s Gigi Dall’Igna admits the brand needed its “difficult to digest” Indonesian Grand Prix to “remind us nothing is easy” amid its 2025 MotoGP domination.

A week on from wrapping up the 2025 riders’ crown with Marc Marquez in Japan, the factory Ducati squad endured a miserable Indonesian Grand Prix.

Marquez struggled to ninth in qualifying and salvaged sixth in the sprint, before being taken out on the opening lap of the grand prix by Aprilia’s Marco Bezzecchi and suffering a collarbone fracture.

Pecco Bagnaia went from dominating the Japan weekend to finishing almost 30s off the win in last in the sprint and crashing out of the main race, with his struggles proving so far to be a mystery to Ducati.

Ducati general manager Gigi Dall’Igna has stressed “calm and patience” in analysing what went wrong, particularly with Bagnaia.

But he also believes difficult weekends like the one experienced at Mandalika are good for Ducati to keep it focused.

“It was a weekend in which everything was complicated and most difficult to digest,” he said.

“We will have to evaluate all technical data with the necessary calm and patience, even more so for Pecco, about who so much has already been said.

“We will press on with the same convictions and confidence, as always.

“Let's just say that Mandalika was one of those weekends that happen, even to us…

“That is the breaking news of the moment.

“Every now and then, we also need these predicaments to remind us that nothing is easy and that everything is the result of constant commitment, always.”

Following his injury, Marquez will be absent from the upcoming Australian and Malaysian Grands Prix.

Despite the difficulties for the factory squad, it still secured the teams’ championship at Mandalika, while Ducati added to its victory tally for 2025 with Gresini rookie Fermin Aldeguer.

“On a day that for us was less than brilliant, the team Gresini riders made it their business to hand Ducati the absolute record for consecutive podiums in the premier class,” he added.

“A bright light by the name of Fermin makes the Mandalika track aglow.

“It is his first win: scored in his MotoGP rookie year, as only true champions are able to do.

“He is the second youngest rider in history to win a GP, as a matter of fact just behind Marc.

“Not only did he win but actually dominated, not looking like a rookie at all in taking his first victory.

“A perfect strategy, a clean and yet aggressive ride: he controlled, pushed, stretched his lead and managed, accumulating an advantage like only an expert champion can do.”
