The new Z4 car was won by world champion Casey Stoner, who dominated the session almost from start to finish, despite completing just nine laps.

Injured riders John Hopkins and Dani Pedrosa chose not to risk further damage and sat out the session.

Update: Testing should have continued for another two and a quarter hours after the BMW shootout, but the session was cancelled after further wind and rain damaged trackside hoardings. Stoner's BMW time was thus the fastest lap of the day.

The third and final day of testing at Jerez takes place on Monday.
