Vinales fastest from Yamaha team-mate Rossi during opening practice for the inaugural Thai MotoGP.

Vinales fitted new soft rear and medium front tyres, with Rossi running the soft front and medium rear. Most others used medium tyres front and rear, with the exception of Zarco (soft-soft).

Marquez - fastest for most of the session - chose not to fit a new rear tyre at the end of the session, along with the likes of Iannone, Petrucci and Crutchlow.

This weekend marks MotoGP's official debut in Thailand, following a pre-season test at the Buriram circuit in February.

Michelin has designed new rear tyres using data from the test and there are four rear-slick options to choose from.

Lorenzo is riding with foot injuries from Aragon, while Pol Espargaro is back after re-breaking his collarbone. The KTM rider missed February's test due to injury.

Tito Rabat is still recovering from leg injuries at Silverstone and again replaced by WorldSBK rider Jordi Torres. Torres has the GP16 machines of Simeon, who is on Rabat's GP17s.
