2013 Rockingham NASCAR: Truck results

20-year-old Kyle Larson recorded his maiden win in the Truck Series with a dominant performance at the one-mile Rockingham Speedway on Sunday afternoon.
2013 Rockingham NASCAR: Truck results

Over in Texas in the Nationwide and Cup events this weekend, a driver named Kyle had proved impossible to beat. And in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event over at Rockingham Speedway in North Carolina it was the same story all over again - except this time the Kyle in question was the 20-year-old Kyle Larson, running in just his fifth Truck event.

Despite starting from the pole for the second time in two weeks, Jeb Burton had been immediately deposed from the front by James Buescher before he could lead a single lap. Buescher's own turn in charge didn't last that long either, and on lap 18 it was Larson who moved into the front and then stubbornly refused to be ousted for the remainder of the afternoon, finally leading for 187 of the 205 laps of Sunday afternoon's '200 at The Rock' Truck race.

With the Cup and Nationwide Series races taking place in Texas this weekend the field was largely clear of established NASCAR stars, but one exception to the rule was Joey Logano. He hung back until 12 laps to go and then made a determined charge for the lead as the end neared. He was rapidly gaining on Larson when his run was interrupted by a late caution for an accident involving Timothy Peters and Ryan Sieg, which was followed by Ron Hornaday Jr. wrecking Darrell Wallace Jr. under the ensuing caution.

It was reminiscent of the move that got Kyle Busch parked from a NASCAR race weekend in 2011 - ironically, Hornaday had been on the receiving end of that one - but this time Hornaday was the agressor while the recipient was driving for Kyle Busch Motorsport. Hornaday insisted he'd only intended to send a message, not to intentionally wreck Wallace. Rather than getting parked, Hornaday was sent to the back for aggressive driving, which he swiftly overcame in the final two-lap green-white-chequered run to finish in 15th.

Logano spun his wheels at the restart and was unable to challenge Larson in the final two laps, meaning that the rookie picked up his first win in the Truck Series at the very venue where he'd clinched last season's NASCAR K&N Pro Series East title.

Brendan Gaughan just held on to third place ahead of Johnny Sauter, but it's Sauter who leads the series points standings by 16 points over Jeb Burton
