Changes to Southern 100 format for 2009

Tuesday, will now see a change of schedule, with racing preceding practice.

The ever popular Steam Packet International Southern 100 Road Races will have a revised race programme for its 2009 running on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 13th, 14th, 15th & 16th July.

The 'Friendly Races' will as in recent years commence on
Monday with a full evening's practice and qualifying.

Tuesday, will now see a change of schedule, with racing
preceding practice.

The opening racing evening now has three races instead of
two as previously, the organising committee having made the decision to include a second eight-lap 600cc event; such is the demand for entries in this class.

The second evening Wednesday sees the 'traditional' four
race programme, with Forgotten Era machines being permitted into the Classic event for the first time.

The race will be divided into two classes: Class 1 - 300cc to 850cc Classic Machines. Class 2 - 230cc to 1000cc Forgotten Era Machines.

Finally, Championship Day Thursday will have six races,
including the premier races of the meeting, the Solo and
Sidecar Championships.

Thursday evening, also sees the unique and now traditional Open-air Prize Presentation in Castletown Square, which is a great social occasion where fans and locals can mix with the established stars and the up and coming riders and their families in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

It is rare for one of the award winners to miss the presentation to collect their hard earned silverware. The acclaiming of the Solo and Sidecar champions is something special and not to be missed!

Supplementary Regulations and Entry Forms for the 2009 Steam Packet Southern 100 International Road Race Meeting will be available in the near future via the club's official website, www.southern100.com

All recent past competitors will have the documents sent to them by post.

In addition to and prior to the July Southern 100, there are two other important events held on the 4.25-mile Billown Circuit, which open and close the annual TT Festival.

The Blackford's Financial Services Pre-TT Classic Road Races take place between Friday and Monday 29th May to 1st June, 2009.

The second running of the Billown TT Races, which in addition to the 125cc and 250cc TT Races will host a combined 600cc & 1000cc Solo race, will take place on Saturday 13th June
2009.

Once again full details of both these events can be found on the official website, along with the Supplementary Regulations and Entry Forms.
