Villar benefit meeting now March 2004.

Carlos Villar, the Berwick Speedway rider from Argentina is continuing his treatment at Middlesbrough's James Cook University Hospital where he is likely to be until the new year, having been told he has been paralysed from the waist down. He starts some arduous rehabilitation today (Monday).

A benefit speedway meeting will be run at Berwick's Shielfield Park, although the idea of trying to run it in the early close-season in mid November has been put to one side for some very good reasons.

It has become apparent that a lot of the high-level, star-quality riders Berwick would have hoped to have along that night will have either packed up their machinery for the year, gone home to their home Countries or gone away on holiday.

So it has been decided to put the meeting into 5 months of serious planning and hold it in early March 2004 in preparation for the new speedway season and benefit from an army of speedway fans desperate to rekindle their affairs with the sport they love.

It is likely to be a select Four Team Tournament between the 4 Northern Clubs, Berwick, Newcastle, Edinburgh and Glasgow with highly supplemented teams with World Class talent, all set for a run out in March 2004.
