Sheffield co-promoter Neil Machin sees the clash with Workington as a chance to show the world what speedway is all about.

"Crowd levels are encouraging and one of our aims is to send people home happy each week and wanting more," Machin explained. "After witnessing Simon Stead's breathtaking performance last week against Stoke we think we are doing so. We want to send out a strong message to the opposition right from the first race and have the right pairing to do that in Robbie Kessler and Scott Smith".

"The Workington clash brings together possibly the best two Premier League teams and also the top two Premier League riders in our own Sean Wilson and Workington's Carl Stonehewer," Machin added. "The stage is set for a meeting nobody should want to miss. Sheffield Speedway will certainly be the place to be on Thursday night".

All being well, Sheffield captain Sean Wilson will be fit to take his place against Workington and his meetings with Carl Stonehewer will be eagerly anticipated. Wilson was involved in a high-speed crash during last Thursday's home fixture with Stoke and it was initially feared that he had broken his arm.

Examinations thankfully indicated nothing was broken but Sean does have arm, elbow and leg injuries. Machin has indicated that Sean will be having intensive physiotherapy and pain killing injections to aid his battle against time to be fit enough to ride against Workington.
