Twenty-one year old Dutchman Theo Pijper is Edinburgh's fourth signing towards their 2002 septet. Pijper showed up well in this year's world Under-21 championship and went close to winning the Dutch Golden Helmet

Pijper arrives on an assessed average of just 3.00, which looks a complete steal and it is understood that he will ride under a French license.

Perhaps better known as a grasstrack competitor but speedway will now take more of a main focus for him and steps have been taken to ensure his new speedway commitments do not clash with anything else.

The Dutch are not noted for producing speedway talent and it will be of much interest to see how young Pijper progresses.

Perhaps the best known Dutch speedway rider was Henny Kroze who had spells with Halifax and Sheffield around twenty years ago.

Pijper joins Peter Carr, Christian Henry and Rory Schlein as confirmed Edinburgh signings. Ben Shields may be returning to build on what was a promising debut season in 2001.

This leaves a space for a couple of heat leaders at the top end of the team. Jan Steachmann was one potential Edinburgh target but he recently elected to stay with Stoke.
