Oakes named as new Robins' boss.

Peter Oakes has been unveiled as the new boss of Premier League side Swindon Robins, as the Wiltshire squad limbers up for a possible title shot.

The experienced former Peterborough and Exeter promoter takes the post after a successful spell in charge of youth development at the Robins. During his time at Peterborough he helped develop the likes of British Under-21 champion Simon Stead, full GB international David Howe and current Robin Oliver Allen. He was also involved in team success for the Panthers, something he will be looking to repeat at the Abbey Stadium.

"This is a very important appointment for us and we're delighted to have someone of Peter's experience on board," commented Robins promoter Peter Toogood.

"I'm hoping everything will be in place for Mick Bell, last year's team manager, to stay on board in the background to work alongside Peter - and I don't see a problem in that.

"We have a team full of enthusiastic youngsters, and Peter was involved in our training track project with the kids last season. He knows the rulebook inside out and I'm sure he will have the respect of each and every member of our team.

"Everything is falling into place nicely for us at this stage and I'm very satisfied with the way things are shaping up for the new season."
