Shropshire's Wayne Broadhurst regained the British Open Ice title with a 15-point maximum at Telford on the weekend.

The recently-married Wolverhampton and Stoke rider got the better of reigning champion Jan Staechmann, who scored 14, and Wolverhampton's new signing David Howe, who was third on eleven.

There was some measure of revenge for Staechmann, however, as he partnered Speedway GP star Nicki Pedersen to victory in the Pairs event, while also scoring eleven points for a Rest of the World Select squad as they beat England 46-32 in team combat.

Broadhurst celebrated victory in the British Open at Telford just 48 hours after his wedding - having proposed to Andrea on the ice at Telford five years earlier.

"I can't believe all this has happened within the space of three days - it's like a dream come true for me," he said, "I had to work hard to win the title and I'm delighted."
