Mildenhall speedway saved.

Mildenhall speedway has been saved from closure today as the club were represented by their new (and as yet unnamed) promoter at today's Conference League promoters' meeting and were accepted into the league.

The Fen Tigers, who this time last week seemed almost certain to shut their doors on racing in 2002, have been spared a third closure in their history
at the eleventh hour.

The new promoter confirmed he will take on several of last year's riders and complete twelve home fixtures at West Row this year, six less than last season.

Departed promoter Dingle Brown, who has kept the club alive for the past seven seasons, expressed his delight that the Tigers will continue but also
his sadness at leaving the club he so fondly holds close to his heart.

Mildenhall will also now be one of very few club's in the sport to use an air fence after an agreement was reached by all the concerned parties.

Brown told BBC Radio Suffolk: "We've been frantic at it now for three weeks trying to sort this deal out, and we finally all agreed terms with Mr Waters, myself, and the new promoter concerned. It's all worked out very well in the end and I can say that there will be speedway at Mildenhall this year."

"He's going to run 12 meetings, will have two or three top riders from last year in the team and he will be bringing in one or two new additions to
that."

"Because of the concrete wall that the stock cars have, the club will now be using an air fence that they use in the grand prix's on the corners. All
that has been sorted with all the costing, and everything has been finalised so everything looks in shape to go forward from here."

"I'm sad that I'm not going to be running it myself this year, I'm pleased for the supporters, there's some wonderful supporters there, and I hope they
have a marvellous year."

But Brown warned that it is vital that the Fen Tigers gain more support this year after a troubled 2001 campaign and a winter that almost brought the
club's immediate existence to an end.

He said: "It's vital that more people in the area come and support the club to get it to develop further and I think he will develop it further if people support him and that is vital that they do that."
