Staechmann returns to Oxford.

Jan Staechmann is on his way back to Oxford after agreeing terms with new promoter Nigel Wagstaff.

The Dane will be full-time with Stoke in the Premier League but he will double-up with the Silver Machine on a regular basis.

Staechmann was a founder member of Oxford's first Elite League team when he joined at the beginning of 1998.

Always a popular rider on the terraces he became a casualty of some poor Oxford performances in 2000 and he joined Premier League Stoke at the start of the 2001 season. He joins with half of his Premier League average of 8.58.

"It was vital for us to go down this route. With the 46-point limit and what other teams are doing, it's obvious that some reserve pairings are going to be strong," said Promoter Nigel Wagstaff.

"I needed to introduce a pairing from the Premier League with experience and I also wanted someone who knows the Oxford track well and gets on well with the fans and Jan fits the bill to perfection," added Wagstaff. "I ran the idea past some people at the club and they were very positive. I spoke to Dave at Stoke and he was keen for Jan to do this. Jan was very enthusiastic -I think he feels this could rejuvenate his career and the fact that he will be testing himself amongst the top boys once again will be a real boost for him."

Oxford also state that an agreement has been reached with a second rider and an announcement will be made as soon as all the relevant paperwork has been completed.

Meanwhile, Nigel Wagstaff will be available to answer any questions on BBC Radio Oxford this Saturday, February 1st, from 2pm.
