No breaks for Compton and Stead.

Both Andre Compton and Simon Stead crashed out early in last Thursday's semi-final of the British Championship with initial fears of broken bones. Later diagnosis has revealed no fractures for either rider.

Stead, crowned Britisdh Under-21 Champion for the third time a week earlier, has been forced to withdraw from his world championship qualifier in Norway this weekend with a badly bruised hand which will be a disappointment to the youngster. His club promoter Ian Thomas said: "Thankfully nothing seems to be broken which is the encouraging side of things."

Meanwhile Compton is back at home in West Yorkshire with an ankle injury which is not broken as first feared and his club, Sheffield, expect that Compron will be fit to line up against Belle Vue on Thursday night.

Sheffield promoter Neil Machin remained optomistic by commenting: "Initial fears were that Andre may have broken the ankle but it's not as bad as that and we have a few days off."
