Double injury blow for reigning champs.

Premier League champions Sheffield have been hit by a double injury blow to Scott Smith and Ben Wilson. Wilson crashed heavily in the 48 - 41 cup win at Hull last night and has a groin problem, whilst Smith has had stitches in his hand after a workshop incident.

That leaves the Tigers with a double hole to fill. Smith's absence, as a heat leader, will almost certainly be covered by the rider replacement facility until he is fit to resume racing but the option of a guest is there on a meeting-by-meeting basis.

Wilson's place at reserve will be harder to fill. The teenager was handed a team place at the start of the season and has since exceeded expectations to fully justify the decision and he is currently averaging around five points per meeting. Sheffield's only option to cover for Wilson is another 3.00 averaged rider with Richard Hall the likely beneficiary.

Tigers co-promoter Neil Machin said "it's a blow to the team, young Ben in particular was making good progress and now faces time out with the injury."
