Reading allow younger talent centre stage.

Reading Racers take a break from racing on Monday night (9th June), and let the Reading Ravens take to the Smallmead track for a rare appearance. The Ravens will take on the Swindon Sprockets in a Conference League Challenge match - racing starts as normal at 7.30pm.

Reading draft in senior reserve Shane Colvin to lead the team at number one. Colvin was originally going to be left out of the Ravens team due to his Premier League average being fractionally over the 4.00 maximum allowed, but fortunately Swindon have granted Reading with special permission to use him.

Matthew Tutton and Peter Collyer join Colvin .Collyer, who was called up for the Racers clash last Monday against Edinburgh, has been riding as second string for Wimbledon where he has put together some tidy scores. Reading have also called in Newport asset Tom Brown who has been scoring well in his Conference outings with Newport this year.

One rider to watch out for in the Ravens team will be 15-year-old Jamie Westacott. He has recently been riding in the British Under-16 series against Germany, where he performed very well, including a healthy 10 (paid 12) in the first Test.

One name in the Swindon team, who should be familiar with Racers fans, is veteran Malcolm Holloway. Holloway rode for the Racers for several season's in the 1980's, so will be hoping he still knows the fastest way around Smallmead. The 46-year-old has been in good form for his Swindon team this season, which includes 18 points at Wimbledon last week.

Joining Holloway as heat-leaders are the highly rated pair of Ritchie Hawkins and Tommy Allen. Both are currently riding in the Swindon Premier League team, where they are making useful contributions, so both will be expected to perform well at this level.

Jack Gledhill is the 16-year-old is the son of ex-Racer Ian Gledhill, who rode for Reading back in the late 1970's and early 1980's. Gledhill junior is in his second season of Conference racing, and is already showing good progress. Another Sprocket with Premier League experience is Simon Dyminski.

Riding at reserve for Swindon are Lee Smart and Simon Walker. Smart is another youngster who rode in the recent Under-16 series against Germany, where he top-scored for Britain.

Reading have introduced a reduced admission for the Conference Challenge, which are as follows (race sheet included): ?7 Adults, ?4.50 Senior Citizens, ?2 children.
