Hard on the news that Hull Vikings reserve Barrie Evans has been selected for the Young England team comes word of another Hull rider on international duty. Ben Thompson, the 12-year-old junior who trains at Hull's Craven Park Stadium every week, has been selected along with 5 other under 16's to represent Great Britain in the World U16 125cc Youth Grasstrack Finals.

The FIM Gold Trophy meeting is being held at Melsungen in Germany this coming weekend. Ben's father Paul commented "We see this as an excellent opportunity for Ben to represent his country and Hull speedway and to gain some valuable international experience. Grasstracks on the continent generally get very large crowds and the U16's finals support a full week-end of international solo and sidecars competition.

"The continental youths are restricted to 125cc until they are 16, therefore, they should have the experience and physical strength to put up some good competition against the British youngsters. FIM have restricted the types of tyres to trails/speedway design. This on its own should give be a new experience, because we use tyres in this country similar to motor cross tyres. Let's just hope it does not rain!"
