The BP Ford World Rally team were awarded the Inmarsat Star of the Rally at the weekend for an unprecedented points scoring tally on their home event. Wales Rally GB proved to be the fortieth consecutive rally where the Cumbria-based team have scored manufacturer points in the FIA World Rally Championship.

The Inmarsat Star of the Rally award was presented to BP Ford World Rally team boss, Malcolm Wilson, and Lewis Booth - president and CEO of Ford Europe - as testament to Ford's unwavering points scoring record since Monte Carlo in 2002.

Nicky Grist, former co-driver and head of the panel of judges said: "Ford and M-Sport are very deserving of the Inmarsat Star. The team has built a solid car that is never far from the front and scoring points at a mammoth forty events just proves how Ford has continued to be a major contender in this championship."

An upbeat Wilson added: "To score points on forty consecutive rallies is a remarkable achievement. It shows a perfect blend of speed and reliability from the Focus RS WRC and given the increasingly competitive nature of the world championship, I think this record will take some beating. Of course we would like to extend the record even further and that will be our target over the remaining rallies this season."

Markko Martin and Francois Duval finished in third and fifth position in Wales Rally GB, scoring the team ten points.
