The GRT Yamaha World Superbike team has announced that Dominique Aegerter will miss this weekend’s Estoril round due to injury and will not be replaced.

The Swiss rider is reported to have broken the fifth metacarpal in his right hand following a training incident this week.

He will require surgery on the injury, which will take place on Thursday.

As such, Dominique Aegerter will sit out this weekend’s 11th round of the 2025 World Superbike campaign and will not be replaced.

It is unclear if this absence will extend to next weekend’s finale at Jerez.

“I am devastated to be missing Estoril; I was more than ready to go and looking forward riding there a lot,” he said in a brief statement.

“I am sorry for my team, all the fans and my sponsors and I will look to come back stronger.”

Remy Gardner will be the GRT squad’s sole representative at the Estoril round this weekend.

Aegerter has had little luck with injuries in recent times, with a training incident in Austria last August forcing him onto the sidelines with multiple fractures.

He missed three rounds last season as a result of that.

Following a crash in Race 1 at the Emilia-Romagna round earlier this year, Aegerter was forced to sit out the remainder of that event due to a neck wound and knee contusion.

Injury aside, Aegerter has enjoyed consistent top 10 finishes this season, with a best of seventh at the Dutch and British rounds.

He is currently 11th in the standings on 100 points, seven clear of team-mate Remy Gardner in a tight race for both to try to break into the top 10.
