Up and down for Lavilla.

Team Alstare Suzuki rider Gregorio Lavilla suffered mixed fortunes in the two 24 lap races at Lausitzring. Despite limited dry set-up time he rode superbly in the first race and took a hard-fought eighth place - The first four-cylinder bike home. The second race was cut short when Gregorio was highsided on the second lap and crashed out of contention - though fortunately without injury.

Both races were won today by reigning champion Troy Bayliss (Ducati). The victories were by no means easy though - especially the first race where he had a race-long battle with Edwards.

In the second race, Bayliss had to fight off Bostrom, Edwards and Xaus before stamping his authority on proceedings and then taking the flag by a more comfortable margin.

Gregorio Lavilla Race 1: 8th, Race 2: DNF:
Considering our lack of good dry set-up time, our result in the first race was not so bad. Also, we were the first four-cylinder bike home and not so far behind the other top Dunlop riders. I had a big battle with Toseland, and although I could stay with him
OK, I just couldn't get past. Towards the end of the race, I lost a lot of grip, so there was no chance of catching him. I hoped for a good result in the second race, but it didn't happen. We made a small suspension change to the bike to try and give me better grip towards the end of the race, but I never got a chance to find out if it worked because I crashed on the second lap! Overall, I think we improved this weekend. I am happy with what we learnt during practice - even though the conditions were not very helpful. I am hoping that Misano will be dry all weekend and that we can improve some more.
