WSS: Joan Lascorz still in hospital

Former 2010 World Supersport title contender Joan Lascorz remains in hospital more than a month after his accident on the opening lap of the Silverstone round.

The Kawasaki star, who won the Spanish WSS round in April and led the world championship at the mid-season point, fell after tangling with Eugene Laverty on the exit of turn one at the British round, and was then hit in the back by Roberto Tamburini.

Lascorz is still in hospital in his native Spain, where he had been under close observation until August 11, with a drainage tube in his lung to relieve bleeding.

Some degree of liver, spleen and stomach trauma was also suffered in the crash, although Lascorz did not need to undergo any surgery on those vital organs.

Lascorz lost skin from his thumb in his fall, for which skin graft surgery went to plan and the thumb is healing well.

The Spaniard also suffered five broken ribs and two injured scapula bones in his Silverstone crash, which cannot be operated on and are being left to recover naturally.

The 25-year-old rider is hoping to be released from hospital soon, but still faces a period of convalescence to allow complete healing to take place.

Lascorz is currently third in the championship, with a 42-point lead over the fourth placed rider, and tipped to move up to the Superbike class with Kawasaki in 2011.

Lascorz will be replaced by Broc Parkes at this weekend's Nurburgring round.
