Biaggi: Mistakes are out of the question
Max Biaggi says he cannot afford a repeat of the error that cost him the World Superbike Championship lead last time out in Russia as he adjusts to his new role of chaser ahead of the Nurburgring.
The Italian looked to be marching towards a second WSBK title having increased his advantage to 60 points as recently as Motorland Aragon, but a failure to make the podium at the following Brno and Silverstone events had allowed the in-form Marco Melandri back into contention heading to the Moscow Raceway.
Though Biaggi returned to the rostrum in race one, a crash in the second has allowed race winner Melandri to leap ahead by 18.5 points with three rounds and six races remaining.
It means Aprilia rider Biaggi, who missed last year's Nurburgring races due to a foot injury sustained in free practice, is under pressure to stymie Melandri's momentum, admitting another mistake could prove critical to his title hopes.
"I've always liked the N?rburgring circuit, even if it played a cruel trick on us last year. After Silverstone and Moscow we are chasing the leaders now - an uncomfortable position - but we need to use this as motivation to get back to being competitive.
"Every round from here to the end will be a match point and the winner will be whoever manages to stay calm and focused. It goes without saying that even the slightest mistake is out of the question".
