Having been axed by the Effenbert Liberty Ducati team ahead of the Portimao round of the World Superbike Championship, Maxime Berger will return for the final 2012 event at Magny-Cours after being called up by the Red Devils Ducati team.

The Frenchman became the third rider this year to be dumped by Effenbert Liberty Racing on the eve of the penultimate round, the team citing a 'breach of contract', but like Sylvain Guintoli - who is now racing for PATA Ducati -, Berger will be present for his home event on a sister 1098R machine.

Taking the place of the injured Niccolo Canepa in Red Devils Roma, who was in turn deputised by Matteo Baiocco at Portimao, Berger was pleased to be getting a final shot at success in his second season of WSBK racing.

"I am happy to race the last round of the season with Red Devils Roma. I am sorry I couldn't take part in the Portimao round, but I'll try and make up for that at my home circuit of Magny-Cours in front of my home crowd.

"I'd like to thank Andrea Petricca's squad for the trust he has put in me and I hope to repay him with some good results."

Red Devils Roma Ducati has already signed Michel Fabrizio for the 2013 season, though it has signalled its intentions to expand to two bikes for next year.
