Jonathan Rea heads up the second free practice session as the Brno circuit dries up after early morning rain ahead of Kawasaki teammate Tom Sykes.

After FP1 was held in mixed conditions with the track drying from a heavy shower, Rea has surged back to the top with consistently quickest lap times over longer runs. Rea’s 1m 59.448s handed him top spot by over two-tenths of a second ahead of Sykes whose final flying lap saw him jump up to second on the timesheet.

Aruba.it Racing Ducati’s Marco Melandri has produced an important return to form after a difficult Donington Park round by moving up to third on the times just ahead of Alex Lowes on the Pata Yamaha who had his one of his earlier fastest lap deleted for exceeding track limits at the final corner.

Melandri’s teammate Chaz Davies also showed impressive race pace in fifth place just in front of Milwaukee Aprilia’s Lorenzo Savadori.

Despite missing last month’s in-season World Superbike test at the Czech Republic circuit, Red Bull’s Leon Camier moved up to seventh place late on ahead of Althea BMW’s Loris Baz and double Donington Park race winner Michael van der Mark on the Pata Yamaha.

Milwaukee Aprilia’s Eugene Laverty holds the final top 10 spot, half a second quicker than FP1 timesheet-topper Michael Ruben Rinaldi on the factory Ducati in 11th, while the second session was red flagged for 15 minutes after Yonny Hernandez crashed midway through the session at Turn 5 for Pedercini Kawasaki. Hernandez was reported unhurt with the session delayed due to safety conditions.
