Jonathan Rea has topped the final warm-up session of the 2019 World Superbike season with a comfortable margin to Pata Yamaha’s Alex Lowes in Qatar.
The reigning World Superbike champion helped Kawasaki wrap up the manufacturers’ world title with victory in Race 1 as he looks to end his campaign in style at the Losail International Circuit.
Rea’s late 1m 57.720s pushed him to the top of the times ahead of future team-mate Lowes by 0.388s. Lowes switches from Yamaha to Kawasaki this winter.
Toprak Razgatlioglu, who replaces Lowes at Yamaha in 2020, claimed third place less than one-tenth of a second behind the British rider as he looks to end his time at Puccetti Kawasaki on a high.
Markus Reiteberger in continuing to impress for BMW having recorded eighth place in Race 1, his best result since Assen, as he ended warm-up fourth quickest ahead of Aruba.it Racing Ducati’s Chaz Davies.
Michael van der Mark celebrates his 27th birthday in Qatar today and started it with sixth place for Pata Yamaha as he looks to reel in team-mate Lowes in the fight for third place in the riders’ championship.
With Sandro Cortese in seventh place for GRT Yamaha, he beat factory Ducati’s Alvaro Bautista and Kawasaki’s Leon Haslam as Loris Baz completed the top 10 for Ten Kate Racing Yamaha.
That saw Leon Camier just miss out in 11th for Moriwaki Althea Honda but in front of Marco Melandri who begins his final day as a professional racer ahead of his retirement at the end of this season.
With Leandro Mercado in 13th for Orelac Racing Kawasaki, Eugene Laverty recovered from a slow start to warm-up for Team Goeleven Ducati ahead of BMW’s Tom Sykes who looks to recover from a Race 1 crash.
Michael Ruben Rinaldi could only reach 16th place ahead of his final outings for Barni Ducati, as Alessandro Delbianco (Althea Honda), Ryuichi Kiyonari (Moriwaki Althea Honda), Jordi Torres (Pedercini Kawasaki) and wildcard Dominic Schmitter completed the timesheet in warm-up.
