Toprak Razgatlioglu’s impressive WorldSBK Misano display of two second places and a first in race two, has put him less than a win behind Jonathan Rea in the world championship heading into Donington Park this weekend.

Along with Rea, Razgatlioglu has been the most consistent rider thus far in 2021 - nine points finishes from nine, and no worse than sixth in a race.

While the Pata Yamaha rider is yet to win a race at Donington Park, Razgatligolu has three second place results from five races in the UK.

Yamaha’s last top-step success at Donington came in 2018 when Michael Van Der Mark won both races.

Speaking ahead of this weekend, Razgatlioglu called the British circuit his favorite and one that should suit the R1 due to it’s fast and flowing sections.

"Donington Park is a great track! Normally I like it a lot as it is really fast and flowing, I think it is my favourite track, but the last time we raced there was 2019," added Razgatlioglu.

"I am excited because this weekend will be the first time with the R1 WorldSBK at Donington.

"I remember in 2018 that Michael [Van Der Mark] won both races with the Yamaha, so this year of course I want to be fighting again for the win.

"We will see, I’ll say it again, I am really excited! A lot can happen and we will see what is possible in the race weekend, but my plan is to fight at the front again and to enjoy the races."

Razgatlioglu chose not to take part in last weekend’s Dutch MotoGP after being offered the Petronas Yamaha ride as a stand-in for Franco Morbidelli, as his focus remains on becoming 2021 WorldSBK champion.
