Pitt takes maiden Superbike victory.

Yamaha Italia's Andrew Pitt took his first World Superbike Race win at Misano in front of his team's home crowd.

He was gifted the lead when reigning champion Troy Corser lost the front end of his Alstare Corona Extra Suzuki on lap seven, however he fended off stiff competition to keep his number one place. After the race Pitt commented, "That was unbelievable. All weekend we worked on the lap times and worked with the tyres. It paid off, we got the results that we need."

Second place went to Alex Barros on the Klaffi Honda who rode hard from eleventh on the grid to a podium position. Barros was a little disappointed as he was having problems with his clutch, he felt it should have been more consistent but was happy with machine otherwise.

The final step of the podium went to Noriyuki Haga, Pitt's Team-mate so a successful day for Yamaha. "It is a little bit hot out there and my tyre finished early. I am happy for this result and I'm looking forward to more," said Haga.

Corser wasn't the only big name to fall, championship leader Troy Bayliss who had been hoping for nine race wins in a row fell from his Xerox Ducati whilst in third place on lap fifteen, he did remount and finish the race twelfth place securing points for his championship. James Toseland took his Winston Ten Kate Honda grass tracking on lap seventeen while chasing Pitt for the lead. He managed to keep his bike upright and rejoin the track; however it relegated him to eighth place.

Chris Walker looked set for a podium finish on his PSG-1 Kawasaki and fought tooth and nail with Noriyuki Haga to try and hold onto third place. They swapped places several times until on the final lap Walker had a bit of a moment that allowed Haga to break away from him.
