Laverty crashed at Hilltop on the second lap of the opening race after attempting to make a move on a rival and clipping the damp grass. Being sent into a high-side, the Buildbase Kawasaki rider landed heavily to prompt a red flag.

Although he would suffer no serious injuries, Laverty would sustain concussion to rule him out of the restart and the second race later in the day.

"I came over Hilltop and I was trying to make a move as we were on the run down to Brittens, but I ran out of road," he told the British Superbike website.

""As the bike touched the grass because it was wet it just high-sided me off and I fell quite heavily. I am feeling a bit bruised but other than that I am ok and now just want to look ahead to the next round."
