Johnson, Brogan disagree on Brands clash

Gary Johnson and Steve Brogan have blamed one another for the accident that prevented either rider from taking British Superbike Evo honours at Brands Hatch.

Johnson and Brogan were dicing for the lead of the category during the wet second-half of race one when Johnson swept down the inside of Brogan into Graham Hill Bend.

However, the pair would make contact on the entry to the bend, sending Brogan down and into retirement, while Johnson would run off the circuit before recovering to finish in third place.

After the race, the accident was met with differing views after the race with Johnson blaming Brogan for not 'giving him an inch', while Brogan labelled the pass as 'stupid'

"I am happy enough with the results although I should have walked that first race but Brogie didn't give me an inch," Johnson said. "His crash was his own fault as I had the advantage and was ahead. He should have backed off but chose not to and we clashed. That left me playing catch up and finishing third instead of getting the win I should have had."

Brogan retorted with: "I was very comfortable and running a good pace until lap five when Johnson took me out at Graham Hill bend. He came flying up the inside and took my handlebars away from me. It was a stupid move and has cost me a potential 25 points. I'm obviously very annoyed about it."

Despite failing to finish two of the weekend's three races, Brogan remains just two points adrift of Hudson Kennaugh in the Evo standings.
