Jakub Smrz is to become the latest World Superbike rider to make the switch to the British Superbike Championship after picking up the vacant seat at Splitlath Redmond Aprilia.

The Czech racer, a veteran of 150 WSBK races, heads to the domestic series after being dropped from his ride with Effenbert Liberty Ducati in World Superbikes ahead of this weekend's round in Germany.

Revealing the deal on his Facebook account, Smrz will make his BSB debut at Assen, where he was a WSBK podium contender earlier this season.

Though he is yet to win a race at the highest level, Smrz has garnered three pole positions and five podiums over five seasons of WSBK competition. He will follow in the footsteps of Noriyuki Haga, Luca Scassa and Mark Aitchison in making the move from WSBK/WSS to BSB.
