Top British motorcycle racer Phil Giles is putting himself up for sale on e-bay in a unique move to fund his 2005 British Superbike campaign and raise money for development charity Riders for Health.

The e-bay auction launched at 9am today, February 16th, has 25 lots of team sponsorship up for grabs over 10 days.

This is thought to be a unique opportunity for companies and race fans alike to bag themselves a piece of the BSB racing, at only ?10,000 per lot, which is a tiny sum considering a small sticker alone on a top teams machine can be anywhere in the region of ?20,000.

Phil hopes to raise at least the ?150,000 needed to run two competitive machines and pay for parts, tools, testing
time and team kit in the premier British Superbike championship. Additional funding is needed for transport to circuits, hospitality and other vital team support.

A percentage of the money raised will also go to Riders for Health, the official charity of MotoGP.

"Phil has been a supporter of Riders for many years, and we are delighted that he has chosen to make such a generous offer despite his own need for funding," commented Rachel Harrington, the Riders' communications officer. "Every pound raised will support our life-saving programmes in Africa, enabling health workers to reach impoverished rural communities with much-needed health care."

Phil decided to take this unprecedented step after facing yet another frustrating search for funding. A regular
podium finisher, Phil is a previous British Superbike Privateer Champion and also triumphed in the national
Powerbike championship in 2001. He has already secured funding from a French team to race in the three European 24hr races this year, including the prestigious Le Mans race.

"It seems bizarre that I can get funding from a foreign team for foreign races but can't get support to compete in my home championship," said Phil. "I'm happy to advertise anything, from company logos to individual names and messages, you could even propose to your loved-one in style!"

If you find the price of team sponsorship a little beyond your means, you can also opt to sponsor Phil personally by buying a patch on his race leathers. An ad for the whole 2005 season will set you back ?4000, while a one-meeting patch is available for just ?250 per meeting.

If you have a sponsorship enquiry please contact Phil directly at contact@philgiles.biz, or alternatively check out his sponsorship lots on Ebay.co.uk.
