Shane Byrne is currently recovering from a spectacular fall in the latest round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Knockhill.

The championship leader slid off his Airwaves Ducati before the first corner of the 15th lap before being flung into the air as he came into contact with the gravel trap.

Shane Byrne is currently recovering from a spectacular fall in the latest round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Knockhill.

The championship leader slid off his Airwaves Ducati before the first corner of the 15th lap before being flung into the air as he came into contact with the gravel trap.

As our pictures show, it was a mighty accident for the 31-year-old, but despite receiving a few bumps and bruises, he was otherwise unhurt and is expected to fit enough for the next round at Cadwell Park in two weeks time.

Incredibly, this retirement was the first time Byrne has not been on the podium this season, although second place in the opening race means he actually heads to the ninth round with an even bigger championship lead...
