The Honda rider led an Irwin 1-2 during the opening stages as Andrew lied second for SYNETIQ BMW.

But as the session went on, McAMS Yamaha duo Jason O’Halloran and Tarran Mackenzie moved up the order to eventually finish second and third.

Lee Jackson will start race one from fourth, while Friday’s faster runner Peter Hickman lines up from fifth.

Christian Iddon was the big name needing to advance through Q1, which he did by finishing top.

There was a late incident between Iddon and team-mate Josh Brookes as they made contact and crashed at the final corner.
