Edenbridge Racing will run a brace of BMWs in next year's new-look British Touring Car Championship, after tying up a deal with two of Europe's leading saloon racing concerns.

The former British F3 champions will team up with the respected Team Rafanelli to field a pair of BMW E36 saloons, based on the 320i road model, in the Production Class of next year's BTCC. Rafanelli will be charged with preparing the cars themselves, with engine responsibilities farmed out to the equally renowned Carly Motorsport operation in Holland. Both entries will be run from Edenbridge's Kent workshops. The first car is scheduled to arrive at the factory shortly before Christmas.

The deal to run the cars was only agreed after the recent Macau Guia touring car event, which was won in handsome fashion by Carly's Patrick Huisman. No drivers have yet been announced for the Edenbridge cars, but team boss Peter Briggs is in no doubt that he will fill both seats with some ease. He expects to field at least one up-and-coming youngster, and may even allocate both cars to stars of tomorrow.

Support for the project will come from long-time sponsor Mezzanine Floor Company, but there will be no backing from BMW either in Britain or abroad, as Briggs opts for the true privateer route.
