The 1992 world champion has only raced occasionally since his retirement at
the end of 1995, most recently in the Chamonix 24hr ice race with rally ace
Ari Vatanen. Now, however, it is rumoured that he will appear in as many as
three BTCC rounds in 1998.

Mansell is set to return behind the wheel of a West Surrey Racing Ford
Mondeo almost five years after destroying a similar car at the 1993 TOCA
Shootout. The move has been a long-time favourite with the motorsport
media, but now looks set to come true with Mansell apparently concluding a
deal to contest the televised rounds of the 1998 series.

Mansell attracted 60,000 spectators to the Shootout meeting, and TOCA boss
Alan Gow is hopeful that his presence will do the same this season.
