New Goodyear For Argentina

Tyre company Goodyear is set to introduce its wider front tyre at the
Argentinian Grand Prix this weekend, hoping that it will close the gap to
the Bridgestone-shod McLarens.

The new tyre is some 2.5cm wider than its predecessor, but had not been
introduced earlier because the Goodyear teams were unconvinced that it was
the way to go. McLaren's success on wider front Bridgestones and Goodyear's
introduction of a better rear tyre have now changed the team's minds,
despite the revisions that will be required to suspension and
aerodynamics.

Testing has shown that the new tyre could be as much as 0.7seconds a lap
quicker than the original design and offers better results under braking
and cornering. Goodyear, however, cannot guarantee that it will be
available in a wide range of compounds for Argentina, leaving its teams to
hope that the company has correctly judged the right specification for the
race.
